Fall Family Fun!

This weekend we visited our favorite apple orchard just about 45 minutes north of us in the mountains of North Carolina.  We went earlier in September to pick apples and headed back this weekend to enjoy their pumpkin patch, corn maze, and of course, to bring home a few more apples!

We told funny stories and listened to Steve Martin's banjo music on our way up the mountain. Atticus brought a few stuffed animals with him on the trip (including goat and llama, both appropriate for visiting this particular place because they have both of those animals on site).  Atticus loves stuffed animals....kind of obsessive about them, actually.  We can't get in the car without him lugging 4, 5, 6, stuffed animals with him.  He carries all sorts of crazy conversations on with them in the backseat...it's quite comical.

 

 He was quick to pick the one he wanted to bring home...it was just his size!  And he made a friend with this friendly, but quiet scarecrow :)

Such an amazing setting...Apple Orchard on the left, Corn Maze on the right, and mountains in the distance!

It was the perfect day to get lost in a corn maze!!

Not sure letting the boys lead was the best idea :)

There were four educational stations we had to find in the corn maze...each one talked about one of the benefits of apples and corn.

 

The corn stalks at the beginning of the maze were low enough that I could see over them but the deeper we got into the maze the taller they got until they were way over Daddy's head!!!

Atticus found a cob of corn that still had all the kernels on it and he decided to pick them off one by one and leave a trail so we could find our way back out...smart kid, that Atticus!!!

We made it out!!!!!

After working up an appetite, we stopped into the Apple Barn and picked up an apple fritter and some fresh pressed apple cider - - nothing like it!

And for whatever reason.....there was a huge gorilla there....I have no idea, so don't ask.  But we did have take a picture of course!  It's not everyday you get to sit in the palm of a gorilla!
