ArtsFest was this weekend and as the Chair I can confidently say it was a huge success! It was really nice to see everyones hard work come together in a festival where all things "art" were celebrated!! Here are a few of the highlights from the weekend...
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band from New Orleans performed - we enjoyed kettle corn while we listened and danced to them play!! They were awesome!!
Atticus really liked their music - he kept bouncing to the tempo!!
A beautiful tree installation was made by children from various elementary schools in our city - it was a rainbow of trees, they did a fabulous job!
Children's Art Parade - children carried their art through downtown and were proceeded by one of the local college bands and flag twirlers.
Atticus enjoyed watching the band (especially the drums and the shiny tubas)!!
There was a Civic Club Chili Cook-Off...six different groups put their chili to the test, including the ladies of Junior Auxiliary. We may not have been selected by the judges as the winner, but after tasting all of the other recipes, I liked ours the best!! It was alot of fun though and proceeds went to a great cause!!
Art in the Park was one of my favorites...children were able to visit art appreciation stations where various local artists were highlighted along with their work and then there was a kid friendly art activity for them to make & take with them in the same style as the artist.
Local artists had their work displayed and for sale - there is definitely some pretty amazing talent right here in our own community!
The Children's Chorus performed along with the Shakespeare Theatre and the local Yarn Club "bombed" a motorcycle with yarn...check this out!!!
What a great way to celebrate art!! It was an honor to be a part of this exciting event and I'm glad we were able to do something fun and free for our community!
