Today was perfect! After a beautiful worship service at church we joined some friends for a potluck brunch. The company was lovely, the conversation delightful and the food delicious!! I made (for the first time) a baked oatmeal with almonds, pecans and craisins that was really quite tasty!
After a casual afternoon with friends we headed to the zoo. Atticus and I have been to the zoo several times, but Aaron hadn't been yet....Atticus was so excited to show him all the animals, especially the reptiles...not my favorite, I prefer the giraffes!
After a walk through the zoo we went to the park nearby and Atticus ran around and we just enjoyed the sunshine together as a family....good times!
After the park we had a delicious dinner at Bonefish Grill...Atticus and I shared the grilled tilapia with mango salsa (he ate almost as much as I did) and Aaron had the Pan Asian Scallops...YUM!
I am so blessed to be the mommy to this precious little boy. He is my joy boy and he brings a smile to my face each and every day. He reminds me to enjoy every minute of every day, because they are not forever and are certainly flying by!!
I'm so thankful for the example my mother is to me...If I'm any kind of mother to Atticus it's because of her unfailing love for me....even through the junior high years! I am blessed by her friendship and am every grateful for her. I love you mom!
I'm not really a "gifts" person and after almost 12 years of marriage, Aaron knows me well....so when he surprised me with a day of togetherness with my two favorite boys I was elated! Atticus made me a sweet card and picked me some wild flowers, and with dad's help bought us an annual family pass to the zoo!! It will definitely get used :)
Since Atticus didn't have a nap today, it was an early bedtime for him...or so I thought...I think he was overly tired and didn't end up falling asleep until 2 hours after we laid him down! And so the job of mommy continues - we told stories, sang songs, rubbed heads, made wishes, said prayers, and I loved every minute of it.
My challenge to myself as a mother is Deuteronomy 11:18-21 (teaching God's word to Atticus):
“Imprint these words of mine on your hearts and minds, bind them as a sign on your hands, and let them be a symbol on your foreheads.Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, so that as long as the heavens are above the earth, your days and those of your children may be many in the land the Lord swore to give your fathers.
