Atticus started playing soccer this week on a three year old team....He has been so ready to get on the field and "make some goals" since we bought all his soccer gear a few weeks ago. Well the day finally came and he was on cloud nine! Two of his buddies are on his same team so he was thrilled to see them at practice.
The coach of his team is actually the Furman Track & Field coach (also a professional soccer player) and his little boy Pearcy is one of Atticus' friends and teammates. Coach Gary was out of town for the first practice but his wife and assistant coach led the practice. He left them with a very detailed hour of training...the same practice routine the Brazilians use!!!! Ha, he's got "big goals" for this team!
Practice started with some stretches....Atticus and his sweet friend JT are working hard to loosen up those muscles!

This picture cracks me up...his little eyes peaking out!!
One of the first skills they worked on was stopping the ball with your feet! It was a pretty hard concept for the kids to learn they couldn't touch the ball with their hands in this game...

Next, it was time to practice kicking the ball....
Dribbling the ball...
Catching up with the ball after you kick it...
Passing the ball to your 'mates...
Turning with the ball...
Turning and kicking the ball at the same time....
Obstacle course through the cones...
And finally...shooting the ball into the goal!!!
SUCCESS!!!!
The last thing they worked on was how to be a good sport and shake hands with the other team...win or loose....
Now, for a break!!!
Week one was a success....we'll see how week two goes and how much they remember :)

Sooooo cute! He looks so grown up!
